Addressing the Urgency for the Future of Mediterranean Youth
In today's context, where a Mediterranean youth under 25 faces three times the risk of unemployment compared to their elders, a risk even higher for young women, the issue of integrating this youth is more pertinent than ever.
The annual conference of the Mediterranean New Chance Network aims to gather, innovate, and share insights on this significant challenge. Resolving this issue requires collective action from all Mediterranean countries. These goals drive network members to address the challenges of youth professional integration throughout the year.
A Fruitful Gathering with Empowered Youth Voices
The success of this conference hinges on member mobilization and institutional partner support. Co-organized by the Network of Second Chance Schools of Portugal and the Municipality of Matosinhos, the event received crucial support from Portuguese members. The exceptional dynamics over these three days were shaped by the active involvement of 80 participants representing diverse structures. Special attention was given to the engagement of young individuals throughout the event, facilitated by the commitment of ESOM trainers.
Achieved Objectives and Enriching Exchanges
The conference had multiple objectives, all successfully achieved. Participants, numbering 45, saw enhancements in both technical and cross-cutting skills. They shared best practices to enhance youth support. An open institutional day facilitated fruitful exchanges with local, national, and international stakeholders.
Concrete Results and Outlook for 2024
The tangible results of this conference are evident. Members identified best practices, gained advocacy skills, and explored innovative methodologies during field visits. Group cohesion strengthened, emphasizing the importance of informal moments. Member cooperation intensifies, driven by a common desire to envision inclusive and sustainable solutions. The mission of the Mediterranean New Chance Network, offering a new chance to vulnerable youth, aligns seamlessly with ambitious 2024 goals.
